These programs are developed and implemented through the leadership of a Coordinator of Professional Development.

PEEN
 
...The "Partnership for Educational Excellence Network" is a statewide network system to improve student performance using partnerships between the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Association of Intermediate Units to build sustained capacity of local school entities. ...This collaborative initiative includes the development of informational resource products and an eight region network of supports and professional educational opportunities designed to meet the diverse needs of all students and educators in Pennsylvania.
...The activities of the partnership evolve around the implementation of Pennsylvania Academic Standards, the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment, provision in Chapter 4, general education curriculum, participation in the state assessment and provision of IDEA '97, Chapter 16, education for gifted students and professional education programs.

Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence
 
...The Pennsylvania Governor's Schools of Excellence are a comprehensive set of residential summer programs held on college campuses. Admission to these programs is highly competitive. BLaST IU 17 cooordinates the recruitment and selection of participants for the first level of qualifying for the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts.

Strategic Planning
 
...Strategic Planning assistance is available to help school distrticts meet the requirements of Chapter 4. This may be done onsite or at BLaST IU 17. Personnel are available to meet with faculty, administration and the Board.

Title II - Non-Public
 
...BLaST IU 17 coordinates the professional educational activities of a non-public Title II - Math-Science Consortium. These activities are planned to enhance the teaching of math and science, K-12.

Act 48
 
...As an approved provider, BLaST IU 17 provides Act 48 data to the individual school districts and the Pennsylvania Department of Education for those attending Act 48 approved courses and workshops. These opportunities are based on the results of an ongoing needs assessment among Intermediate Units, school districts and the Pennsylvania Department of Education personnel.

Pennsylvania Alliance of Intermediate Units
 

...BLaST IU 17 participates in statewide professional development programs through the Pennsylvania Alliance of Intermediate Units. This organization provides Intermediate Units to share strategies, methods and materials which will enhance teaching and learning across the Commonweatlh of Pennsylvania.

A.P.L. Associates
 
...A.P.L. is a staff development organization that has dedicated its focus and energies to working with professional educators. To this end, they are committed to assisting educational organizations in planning and implementing a meaningful and ongoing staff development program.
...A.P.L. not only develops and refines those skills that result in a more productive in-class program, but is also committed to setting up and assisting in maintaining a follow-up process.
